Mission Statement - Bernardsville Pilates

To offer quality Pilates instruction in an encouraging and challenging atmosphere.  Through a combination of mind/body exercises, we teach clients to strengthen the body and focus the mind.  As a team of certified instructors, we motivate clients to incorporate the Pilates method into their daily lives.

Developed by Joseph Pilates in the early part of the 20th century, the Pilates Method of exercise was designed to ease and correct the imbalances that everyday life creates in our bodies.  Sitting at a computer, driving for long periods of time, playing golf or tennis are often repetitive and one sided causing us to favor some muscles over others.

Targeting the deep postural muscles, Pilates exercise works by building
strength from the inside out, rebalancing the body.  It will also improve your posture and tone muscles - achieving the perfect balance between strength and flexibility and is a great way to relieve unwanted stress and tension.

Pilates exercise offers both mental and physical training.  By improving body awareness and focus, tension is released from the body and correct alignment is taught.  The Pilates movements deliver simultaneous stretching and strengthening in a non-impact, balanced system of "body-mind" exercise.

Elements of Pilates:

·   Lengthen short muscles & strengthen weak ones

·   Stabilize postural muscles via a strong core

·   Create a supple spine

·
   Enhance concentration

At Bernardsville Pilates, we follow a classical, systematic and integrative approach to The Method utilizing different specially designed apparatus - Mat, Reformer, Chair, Trapeze Table, Barrels, Magic Circles, Balance Balls, and Ped-O-Pul.

Because Pilates exercise is taught one-on-one or in small groups, our instructors can tailor the workout to each individual's needs.  All movements promote strength, stability,
and an increased range of motion in the joints.  Pilates exercises can also be helpful during pregnancy as well as after childbirth to restore abdominal muscle strength and realign posture.

What you can expect from your workouts at Bernardsville Pilates will be a total change in your body.  Posture will improve, stomach and buttocks will become more toned, and legs and arms will be leaner.  Energy levels, coordination and balance will greatly improve as well!  If you give us at least two days a week, we guarantee results!

Pilates exercise will give you:

·   Powerful, flat abdominals

·   Strong, supple, well toned muscles

·   Better alignment and posture

·   Enhanced athletic performance

·   An increase in self-confidence
